Elegua is the first protection, since he is the one who opens the paths to continue in the religion. The uninitiated or aleyos must receive or consecrate it first. It is the sight that follows a path, it becomes a fearsome and fierce warrior when it joins Oggún and Oshosi, nothing stops it. Elegua is one of the first Oshas or Orishas to be received. He is an Osha from the Orisha Oddé group, called Los Guerreros . He is the first of the warriors along with Oggún , Oshosi and Osun . In nature, it is symbolized by rocks. Eleguá came to the earthly plane accompanying Osha Obbatalá . He is considered the fundamental messenger of Olofin.

Its number is 3, its colors are red and black. Monday and the 3rd of each month are its days. In syncretism it is compared to the Holy Child of Atocha (January 1). Its celebration is on January 6 and June 13.
